The short version
  • Ten calendar days, nine nights
  • Two city nights, three Boquete, three Bocas, one city
  • Two major transfers get their own days

Count the nights before adding activities

This itinerary assumes arrival on day one and international departure on day ten. Spend two nights in Panama City, three in Boquete, three in Bocas del Toro and the final night in Panama City. That is nine nights, with arrival and departure counted among the ten days. If your flights give you fewer usable hours, remove an activity before shortening every connection.

The sequence is a suggested plan rather than a guaranteed package: Panama City to David by air, onward to Boquete by road, Boquete to Almirante and Isla Colón, then a flight back to the capital. Air Panama publishes David and Bocas routes, and a combined Boquete–Bocas road-and-boat service is marketed by Hello Travel Panama. Actual dates and seats still need confirmation.

Book the transport spine first

Begin with the international flights, then check the David flight on day three and Bocas return on day nine. Read the airport codes: an arrival at Albrook does not put you at Tocumen. Confirm baggage conditions across the domestic legs before packing around your international allowance. Then arrange the David–Boquete transfer and the Boquete–Bocas journey.

Tell the Bocas accommodation where the combined transfer ends. An included water taxi to Isla Colón may leave another boat or road transfer before check-in. Choose accommodation that fits the day-nine departure as well as the leisure days. Our preference for a final city night creates room for disruption, but it is not a certified connection guarantee.

Spend the full days differently

Boquete’s two full days can do different jobs. A coffee visit gives context to the landscape; an outdoor day can be chosen around ability and current conditions. Avoid scheduling a demanding overnight or summit outing immediately before the road transfer. Ask about trail access and cancellation terms rather than assuming a clear forecast in town resolves every mountain decision.

In Bocas, use one day for an outing with the inclusions clearly stated and keep the other open. That gives you space if a boat plan changes and avoids moving hotels simply to tick off islands. If your purpose is a particular lodge or surf location, adapt the base to that purpose rather than treating Bocas Town as an automatic choice.

When to simplify the route

If the required flights do not fit, do not preserve this outline by hiding a long bus journey inside a sightseeing day. For an entirely overland trip, consider dropping either the highlands or islands and adding time to the other. If you strongly prefer fewer check-ins, choose Panama City plus one longer regional stay.

For families or travelers needing boarding assistance, check the actual boat and property access before committing to the island section. Compare the total cost of transport, meals, activities and rooms for your dates; this guide does not supply an unverified daily budget. A simpler route that fits the bookings is more useful than a perfect-looking map with fragile connections.
