The short version
  • Airport shuttle stops: Terminal 1, Door 2; Terminal 2, Door 18
  • Change at Corredor Sur, then San Miguelito for Line 1
  • Compare the full hotel journey, including the last leg

Start with your hotel address

Save the exact address before landing. “Panama City” covers different neighborhoods; getting to a station and getting to your hotel are separate parts of the journey. Compare the complete route rather than choosing solely by the airport fare.

Choose the Metro when you can manage your luggage through transfers and have a workable last leg. Consider a direct road pickup if your group has several large bags, someone needs assistance or your arrival leaves little margin before rail service ends.

Find the airport shuttle from your terminal

Tocumen’s airport transport page lists an external shuttle to the Metro station from both terminals: Door 2 at Terminal 1 and Door 18 at Terminal 2. Identify your terminal after collecting your bags, then follow the station-shuttle signs and confirm the stop with airport staff.

Leave time for waiting and finding the station. Confirm the shuttle stop at your terminal before setting off, and keep your bags with you through the connection.

The Metro route has two changes

Use the airport branch to Corredor Sur, transfer onto Line 2 toward San Miguelito, then change to Line 1 for the city. The operator’s airport guide identifies platform 2 at Corredor Sur for the San Miguelito direction. Check the displayed destination before boarding, especially on the return journey.

Line 1 continues toward Albrook. Choose your exit using the official network map and your accommodation’s directions. Casco Antiguo is not a station name: work out the onward journey to your actual address rather than treating the Metro fare as a complete hotel transfer.

Separate the fare from the card purchase

The Metro’s September 2026 fare notice keeps Line 1 at US$0.35 and Line 2 at US$0.50. Its network map publishes US$0.85 for travel using both lines and US$2 to buy a physical card. That card purchase is separate from the journey fare; it is not a US$2 rail ticket.

The airport and Metro guidance also describe Visa and Mastercard contactless payment. Use the marked gate and follow the payment instructions there. Keep a backup way to pay rather than assuming every phone wallet or foreign card will work. Check the operator’s service notices for your date; a published closing hour does not tell you the last useful train for every connection.

Arrange a clear pickup and a clear total

The airport places its official taxi stands outside arrivals in both terminals. It describes cooperative drivers with uniform and photo identification. Its reference table lists Panamá Centro at US$30 per trip for up to two passengers. Confirm that your hotel falls within that destination and agree the total before boarding, including any extra passengers or other charges. The table is not an address-specific booking quote.

For Uber, request the ride and follow the pickup instructions shown for your terminal in the app. Pickup arrangements can change, so use those instructions instead of an old screenshot or a generic parking-row description. Match the vehicle and driver details before getting in. Check that the selected vehicle fits both people and bags; compare the current quote before confirming.

For a prearranged driver, save the provider’s contact details and agree the meeting point and waiting terms in writing. Give the flight number and arrival terminal. The landing time is not the time you will be outside: immigration, baggage collection and finding the meeting point all come first.

Keep the first journey simple

Before leaving the arrivals area, open or save your hotel address, chosen route and payment option. If rail connections are no longer practical, switch the whole plan to a confirmed road journey instead of starting a route you cannot finish. For a return flight, check the airline’s terminal and check-in requirements separately from the transport plan.

Tocumen is PTY. Albrook airport is PAC, a different airport across the city; Albrook Metro station and the bus terminal are also distinct from the airport entrance. If you are connecting to a domestic flight, use our dedicated Tocumen–Albrook airport guide below rather than treating a city transfer as an airport connection.

  • Know your arrival terminal and the exact destination address.
  • Check current Metro service before committing to the rail route.
  • Keep the pickup instructions and agreed price accessible without mobile data.
  • Include the final leg to your hotel when comparing cost and time.
